Since my early teens I’ve held a sometimes unhealthy obsession with technology and an uncontrollable desire to understand more. This has led me on an adventure throughout the technological and online world. As someone who thrives on problem solving as well as being creative; it’s not difficult to understand how I came to fall in love with the web industry.

Specialist Skills

In the decade or so that I have been actively designing, developing and delivering web applications for use on the web; I can proudly claim myself a specialist in the following areas and or languages.

A large part of my commercial experience has involved undertaking the honourable task of refactoring large legacy applications that were written prior to PHP 5.3 and as a result were mostly procedural. Whilst an object orientated approach is always the preferred way for a multitude of reasons; there are still occasion when a completely procedural approach is duly warranted. The key is knowing where and when to use either or.

Behind most dynamic web applications often resides a datastore of sorts. Most of my expertise has come to rely on MySQQL as preferred relational database management system. When it comes to big data though a RDBMS can fall short on performance and so services like Elasticsearch become common place.

Anybody can hack a web page together; but only a true expert can craft a well optimized solution that is built for an omnichannel audience. How do you make sure the right snippet is presented to the user when your site is shared on social media and or presented in google search results? Proper use of microdata / metadata ensures that robots, impaired users and the typical all get to understand your content at it's best. How does your cross channel presence fair out?

Have an interesting project for me or just want to say hello?
